Would you like to participate in the ByTown Structured Search Engine Web Initiative for Local Businesses to help your business and website score higher on search engines results? To qualify, you must be a brick and mortar business with a verifiable US address. Address does not have to appear with your listing.
Why are we doing this? since more and more household users are relying the web to find local stuff (Google by default) local business still have to go through massive amount of work and expense to improve their Search Engine Popularity Levels. This site is designed to help local businesses improve their popularity level and drastically reduce their advertising costs.
Why do we need content? to help you get found. The freshest the content the better your chances in being found. That’s why we stress including your physical and web address (include nearby towns you service as well) in all the content you submit. For example, some websites have been out in hyperspace for years, very few people know they exist, and are nowhere to be found on search engines.
You don’t have a website? that’s fine too, you can use your listing for your website if you like.
I already have a website? you’ll benefit from this initiative even more than you think by helping increase your website popularity on the web.
1. Register on the site
2. From the Business Directories link on the top menu bar choose the directory most appropriate for your business.
3. Click Add New Listing and proceed entering information about the store, it’s all wysiwyg so you can add pictures with your text (call me if you need help, we are trying to streamline for all user levels)(you may selects several categories as applicable)
a. For search engine use, enter all keywords in upper and lower case with no spaces after commas. Example Wine,Beer,Amarone,….
b. Try to use as many of the keywords you as part of the paragraphs in your business description. In your description you may also like to include names of surrounding towns for extra search results.
c. Have more pictures ready to attach once your listing is approved.
d. Once approved you may also attach a video you may have one on Amazon or YouTube.com
e. You can also take a video on one of your events, post it on YouTube or Amazon and copy the links in your listing.
4. Enter any events you wish in the Event calendar below, you can have recurring events. As well as have visitors enroll for special shows/events where you have to limit attendance. You may also charge for the events payments will be deposited to your favorite PayPal account. Include your physical address and web links in all your events.
5. On the top left of the screen you can post announcements/articles
6. You can start a blog or forum discussion. If you do make sure you always mention your business and website since everything you enter is spidered/read by Google, Yahoo and MSN
7. You can also post Articles you may have written or written about you, just make sure you always have your address info. We assume you have the permissions or rights to all articles you post.
Most of the information is appended to the new Google structured data base and the existing hypertext database.
You should begin to see improvements in search engine’s result for your company in just a few weeks.
